When you play online games, you will be connecting to a website
via the internet. Individuals who own a computer that runs on
Microsoft Windows XP will have a variety of online games
programmed into their software, including backgammon, checkers,
hearts and more. When logging on, Microsoft users will need to
be logged on to Windows as an administrator in order to install
components or make changes to your computer system’s settings
necessary to run some of the online games.
Many people prefer backgammon as one of their favorite online
games. The object of Backgammon is to move all your pieces, or
stones, around the board counterclockwise into a home area. From
the home area, the pieces must be removed from the game board by
exact dice roll. The first person to bear off all their stones
will be declared the winner. In Backgammon, you will connect
over the internet with your opponent.
Checkers, which is a board game classic, is also one of the
most popular online games in existence. The object of checkers
is to defeat your opponent by jumping and removing his or her
pieces. You can also win by positioning your checkers in such a
way that results in blocking your opponent from moving. When
playing Checkers online, you will connect over the internet with
your opponent.
For the card fanatic, internet hearts is a popular choice among
online games. Hearts is a card game with four players, each
playing independently. The object of Hearts is to earn as few
points as possible during the course of play. When any player
reaches 100 points the game ends, at which time the player with
the fewest points wins. While playing Hearts online, you will
connect over the Internet with your opponents.
Reversi, another of the popular online games pre-installed into
MS Windows XP, is a game played on an 8x8 board with
black-and-white pieces, or stones. The object is to have more of
your color of stones on the board than your opponent. Stones can
be reversed from one color to another by surrounding the pieces.
The game is over when neither player has any legal moves left.
While playing Reversi online, you will connect over the Internet
with your opponent.
Another of the popular online games for the card fanatic is
known as Spades, which is a partnership card game with two teams
of two players each. The object is for you and your partner to
bid a contract, then skillfully play your cards in coordination
with each other to make the contract. You win when you reach 500
points or force your opponents to drop to a negative 200 point
score. As is the case with all other online games, you will
connect with your opponents and partner over the internet while
playing Spades online.
In order to access games that were pre-installed with your
software, click on ‘Start’ and then ‘Programs.’ Next, click on
‘Games’ and then select from the online games that you see
available. If you do not see online games listed, this means
that none were installed with your software.

Why Do People Play Online Games by Jonathan White
In a recent article on CNET, William Moss observes that in an Internet cafe in China, of the couple of hundred people using the cafe when he visited it, with the exception of two people, everyone else was seen using them to play computer games.
People paying money just to play online games on hourly basis show the pull and popularity of the online games.
Here is an attempt to understand why online games are so popular these days?
An online game literally refers to the type of game, which is played on your computer while you are connected to the Internet. These can be single player games that you play with a remote server or multiplayer games where many users like you are playing with each other.
There was a time when computer games were for the so-called nerds or geeks who were basically solitary beings. With the rise in popularity of the Internet and with broadband access becoming increasingly affordable, the quality of free online games being offered has increased dramatically. Playing games online is no longer a solitary activity. Studies show that it is a social experience that more and more extroverts and out-going people are becoming part of.
Free gaming sites have become the places for players to meet and have social interactions. Popular regulars at gaming sites are a common phenomenon that we all are aware of. These gaming sites typically offer games that range from a quick, casual game during your coffee break to engaging multi-player games.
Why do people play online games?
a. Firstly, the appeal of anonymity. After all you can create a personality for yourself and can be what ever you want to be. This is a very powerful reason for people to hang out at these social sites.
b. Internet is a wonderful medium that enables you to be part of a society where all are equal. Absolutely no discrimination of any variety.
c. The games are becoming increasingly easy to setup. Most of the times you just don’t need a native installation on your PC. A web browser is all you need to play a multiplayer game. This has taken away the operating system related hurdles that one would otherwise have encountered. These games are mostly free and on top of that you don’t have to install anything to enable you to play these games. You just heard of game, perhaps from a friend or through an email or a newsletter. You just go to the gaming website and you are ready to play. No setup related hassles at all. This definitely is a very big contributor to the success and popularity of online games.
d. Online games are popular because they give people who are bored playing with their computer a chance to interact with real opponents. As a player you can chat with other players, you can join hands a few players and scheme against the others, just the way you do in real world, but with the advantage of anonymity.
I am sure there are more reasons. This in itself can be a topic of research for social scientists. Internet is changing the way we live. It is changing the way we play for sure.

Free Online Games - Will The Bubble Burst?
Online games are a new rage on the Internet. Everybody believes that there is a lot to be earned with online games. I wonder how? You develop games, or license them create a website and try to make it popular amongst millions of others. Lot of money and effort is needed to get noticed on the Internet. And after all that you offer free games. Where is the money?
Online games and advertisements - Look at this scenario. A player has arrived to your website. He/she has downloaded a game and begun playing it. Some advertisement banners are running around. Do you expect the player to click on the advertisements or play the games for winning?
Obviously the players are focused on the game and are totally unaware about the rest of the web page. I don't believe they will click on the advertisements. If they do that, it means that your games are not good enough. The other method of getting revenue is subscription based website. With so much of free stuff floating around, why should I visit your paid site, pay you and play? Why should I not save money by searching for free games?
Internet is very deceptive in some ways. Most of the people believe that if one subject is very popular there is lot of money in that. But this just is not true. Money does not come from popularity of the subject. For getting, money, you have to make people pay. for that your content has to be extremely unique, your advertising expense huge and your running cost quite big. If after that you make money, you should consider yourself lucky.
The author, C.D. Mohatta writes for http://www.ecarduniverse.com/ which has free ecards on holidays, birthday, love, friendship, family, expressions, celebrations and all events and occasions. He also writes fun quizzes and fun tests at http://www.funquizcards.com/ on topics like love, personality, dating, relationships, friendship, movies, tv, music, business, etc. One more site associated with the author is http://www.yourfungames.com/ - it has lots of free flash games which anyone can play online.

Free Internet Games by Vicki Churchill
The internet is becoming more and more popular and thousands of people become new users every day.
Not only is the internet one of the most common forms of communication and essential when running a business from home, it has become one of the most popular methods for playing games.
If you are anything like me, you have tried to find free internet games more than once.
Many television programs that your children watch will have their own website, most of which will provide educational free internet games.
One of the most common problems people have found when searching for free internet games is that some sites will lead you to believe that you are getting the entire game to play when in fact all you download is a trial that gives you a thirst for more however the only way to finish the game is to buy it.
Another problem associated with free internet games is the annoying pop ups and banners that always seem to appear, this happens because the game is not the only thing you download.
The main thing to remember with free internet games is to trust who you download the software from, not all games will need downloading as many can simply be played online, however those that do you need to be careful of, make sure your virus scan is working to eliminate any nasty bugs.
Another great aspect of internet gaming is being part of a community, there are so many free internet games available where you can play against a real person who has also logged on.
If you find a great game and you can play against someone online its always good fun to share this with friends and play against them in the comfort of your own home.
The most trustworthy place to play free internet games is through a search engine such as msn. Normally the search engine home page will provide you with a link to their game section.
If you have other ways of playing games such as a play station or game cube it is always a good idea to see if you can play a trial version of a game to determine if you actually want to purchase it, again these are readily available over the internet and can save a lot of disappointment if the game you set your heart on really isn’t all its cracked up to be.
If you have never played an online game before I strongly recommend you give it a go, its free, it’s easy and it’s a great way to pass the time if you’re bored or just need to take you mind off things for a while.
